Spring Prayers by Jagari Mukherjee

( for Inam)

Early morning

a pair of young crows

kiss on my terrace.

It is a warm spring

and I think of your

turquoise beads.

You must be asleep, still,

and I ruminate upon

blue jewelry against

your skin that I caressed

like a treasure for keeps.

You smile in your dream

and I pray: love is no sin

even when I want you

in all your sensual disarray.

The crows fly away

into the white sky

I cover with my fingertips:

they bear my prayers.

I touch your turquoise

to my eyes and lips.
